President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the constitution of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to coordinate the state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London after a long illness.
In a statement issued Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director, Information and Public Relations, the committee will be chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume and is tasked with organizing a dignified state funeral for the late elder statesman.
Members of the committee include the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa and National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
Also included are the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Kabir Masari, Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, MON and Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa
The Permanent Secretary, General Services Office (GSO), will serve as the Committee’s Secretariat. In addition to the committee, President Tinubu has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to open condolence registers at the entrance of their offices to allow the public to pay tribute.
A central condolence register will also be available at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja for the diplomatic corps and general public.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier declared a seven-day national mourning period and ordered that flags fly at half-mast nationwide. A public holiday has been declared for Tuesday, July 15, as the late President is laid to rest in Daura, Katsina State.
