LEMU Supports 405 Muslims with Gifts, Items Worth 82.5 Million Naira 

​​​​​​​The support was to help cushion the effect of hardship on the Muslim ummah

 The Lekki Muslim Ummah (LEMU), in Lekki Lagos State has distributed items and cash worth 82.5 million naira to 405 beneficiaries to alleviate the hardships facing its members.

The mosque said this was also in the wake of fuel subsidy removal, harsh economic conditions, rise in inflation, and increasing unemployment.

LEMU said the money was collected from payers of zakat and sadaqat for distribution to the less privileged so as to eradicate poverty and provide economic empowerment. 

The beneficiaries were categorised into business empowerment with the sum of 50.2 million-naira, youth empowerment program with 4.2 million naira, sewing apprenticeship program with 7.8 million, medical with 3.4 million-naira, education scholarship with 8.2 Mill naira, emergency cases with 1 Million-naira, debt settlement with 2.2 Million naira and accommodation with 5 million naira.

The President of Lekki Muslim Ummah, LEMU, Dr Abdulganiyu Labinjo, and the Chairman, LEMU Zakat Committee, Olalekan Saliu who spoke about this year Zakat disbursement urged the beneficiaries to use the items and cash judiciously.

Doctor Labinjo said that there was a machinery in place that would ensure that there is a follow-up on the beneficiaries to ensure they use the items and cash as stated.

The beneficiaries expressed joy and satisfaction while also calling on the federal government to do more to help struggling citizens.

Access24 correspondent reports that cash and items such as sewing machines, tricycles, and grinding machines, among others, were distributed to the beneficiaries.
