The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to shift focus from political investigations and concentrate on the development of the state.

Wike gave the advice during a visit to Benin City, urging the new administration to avoid probing former Governor Godwin Obaseki and instead channel efforts toward meaningful governance and infrastructure delivery.

Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike acknowledged past tensions with Obaseki but insisted that political grievances should not distract from leadership duties.

“Even though I was betrayed by Obaseki during his re-election campaign, I believe the people of Edo deserve forward-looking leadership—not political revenge,” Wike said.

During the visit, Wike also addressed former Edo Governor and serving senator, Adams Oshiomhole. In a rare moment of political candor, he publicly apologized for past disagreements, admitting his role in Oshiomhole’s political challenges.

Wike was in Benin for the planned commissioning of the New Edo Line terminal, part of the second phase of the Benin Central Bus Terminal project. However, the ceremony was canceled following the announcement of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s death.
