On the 19th of March 2024, it was reported that the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company disconnected the University College Hospital from the national grid over unpaid electricity bills worth over 400 million naira.

Following the disconnection of the University College Hospital Ibadan from the power supply, the management of the institution has appealed to philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to assist them financially to clear their debts.
The Chief Medical Director of UCH, Dr Jesse Otegbayo made the appeal while speaking with newsmen at a press briefing in Ibadan.
As a result of this action, the hospital staff decided to reduce their working hours from 8am to 4pm due to the absence of power supply.
Speaking on the issue, the Chief Medical Director acknowledged the situation, noting that it has been consistent since 2019 when he assumed office, but it is now beyond his capacity due to certain circumstances that arose.
He therefore appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to extend their benevolence to the hospital, so they meet their obligations.
Meanwhile, in a press statement made available to Newsmen, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the action saying it took the decision after several failed attempts to engage the hospital management concerning the situation.
The appeal by the Chief Medical Director of the Teaching Hospital for support, was reported to be a move to ensure the continued provision of quality healthcare services to Nigerians without any hinderance
