The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu on Monday received members of the Nigerian female football team, the Super Falcons, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Access24 reports that the Super Falcons crashed out of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, having lost through penalties to the English team, the Lionesses last Monday, August 7.

The game between Nigeria and England was the fourth meeting of both sides at the senior level and Nigeria triumphed on two occasions, pipping the English 1-0 on July 23, 2002, then again by a more comfortable 3-0 on April 22, 2004 in friendlies, but lost on penalties to the English side in 2023.

Both sides were unbeaten in the tournament, and England progressed into the next round which looks like huge step forward as most favorites including USA, Germany and Brazil have been knocked out of the competition.

Meanwhile, the First Lady last week held a similar meeting with the Nigeria female basketball team, D’Tigresses.
