The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Mr Abdulhafiz Toriola, on Friday, the Lagos State Government has reiterated its determination to ease movement and ensure that passengers spend shorter time in transit while moving around in the state.
Toriola made this known in an interview in Lagos on Friday, stressing that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had been able to flag-off commercial operations of Blue Line Rail within the first 100 days of his second term in office, as part of the efforts.
He also commended the governor on the commencement of the 25 minutes Blue Line Rail from Marina to Mile 2, noting that the governor had been able to push further the multimodal transportation in the state.
According to him, Sanwo-Olu has also provided additional standardised boats to improve water transportation and build passenger confidence in patronising waster transportation.
Toriola therefore recalled that on August 2nd, the governor slashed the cost of transportation on all its transport systems, including Blue Line Rail, by 50 per cent, as a palliative measure against the effect of fuel subsidy removal.
The permanent secretary said that Sanwo-Olu had also made arrangements with various transport unions to give a 25 per cent discount to commuters, statintg that the government was very proactive to make life more bearable for residents.
“Mr Governor has also directed the ministry to look for other means of improving the transport sector in the state because as long as we have high population there will be traffic activities.
“Traffic indicates the growth in the economy. We have discovered all the traffic areas in the state and we are working towards improving the traffic flow in Lagos,” he said.
