The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has advised youth corps members deployed to Borno to respect the culture of their host communities during the one year service.

The NYSC Coordinator in Borno, Mr Mohammed Adamu-Jiya, gave the advice at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch B stream one orientation on Tuesday in Katsina.

The coordinator said “in keeping with the objectives of the scheme, you are expected to integrate into your host communities while also appreciating and respecting the culture of the people.

“I enjoin you to undertake personal and group Community Development Service (CDS) projects that will help to uplift the living standard of host communities.

“You must desist from meddling in local politics.”

He commended members for participating in camp activities “and exhibiting high level of discipline.”

He urged them to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work and resilience, which they imbibed during the three weeks orientation course.

He said “I have received impressive reports on your participation in the entrepreneurial training conducted in camp under the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

“I encourage you to build on the skills acquired by availing yourselves opportunities for post-camp training as this will go a long way in empowering you for self-reliance.

“On our part, we will continue to liaise with financial institutions and other stakeholders with a view to providing start-up loans to enable you actualise your business dreams.”
