Four of the 11 remaining students of Federal Government College, Birnin-Yauri, Kebbi State, have regained their freedom.

The girls, Bilha Musa, Faiza Ahmed, Rahma Abdullahi, and Hafsa Murtala, were among those kidnapped by bandits during an attack on their School on June 17, 2021.

The four were among the 112 students and teachers of the school abducted in 2021. While some of the students regained their freedom after their abduction, 11 of the students remained in the bandits’ captivity.

Salim Kaoje, the Chairman of the Committee for the 11 abducted FGC, Binrin Yauri, revealed this in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday. Kaoje revealed that the parents had paid an undisclosed amount of money to secure the release of the four girls.

He said the parents sold their properties and organized a fundraising campaign that saw many Nigerians assist them financially.

"As you are aware for the past three months, we have made an appeal fund for us to gather money to get our children back. we used the money that we have gotten from the people in addition to what we had to secure the release of these four students," Kaoje said.

He revealed that the payment of the ransome only secured the release of four of the 11 remaining abductees.

“This means we have been able to secure the release of only four out of the 11 students remaining in captivity. The joy is that these four students are right now in Kebbi Government House very safe and sound,” he said.

Kaoje also revealed that the parents of the remaining seven students were still in the bush making negotiations with the bandits for their release too.

The State Police spokesman SP Nafi’u Abubakar,  confirmed the release of the abductees.

Thirty students and one teacher were released in October 2021. This was in addition to those earlier released to their parents by the abductors.
