The burial of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been postponed to Tuesday, July 15, 2025. The ceremony will take place in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.
Buhari, who was born on December 17, 1942, died on Sunday in a London clinic after a prolonged illness. The precise cause of death has yet to be disclosed. He was aged 82.
Addressing journalists on Monday, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda confirmed that the late president’s remains will now arrive in Nigeria by 12 p.m. on Tuesday, with the burial scheduled for 2 p.m. the same day.
“We have made consultations with the family and people around in London, and we concluded that the body will arrive in Katsina tomorrow by 12 noon, and the burial is going to take place in Daura at about 2 p.m.,” the governor said.
Governor Radda added that the decision to postpone the burial followed consultations with Buhari’s family and other stakeholders.
“On behalf of myself, the people, and the government of Katsina State, I extend our condolences to the family of the late president and to all Nigerians, especially His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the loss of his predecessor.”
