The Bauchi State Government is considering the development and enactment of a legal framework aimed at strengthening environmental protection and enhancing climate resilience across the state.
State Governor Bala Mohammed gave the hint during a courtesy visit by a delegation from Oxfam Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture at the Government House, Bauchi.
The visit was part of activities marking the conclusion of development of a policy document and statewide climate change awareness and resilience campaign.
While receiving the delegation, Governor Mohammed expressed appreciation for the initiative.
He commended the organisations for their commitment to promoting environmental sustainability in the state.
The governor voiced concern over the increasing environmental damage caused by unchecked human activities, particularly the alarming rise in charcoal production, a practice he identified as a major contributor to deforestation and climate change in the region.
He directed the Secretary to the State Government to present the policy document submitted by the delegation to the State Executive Council for further deliberation and action.
In their remarks, representatives of Oxfam and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture praised Bauchi State’s growing collaboration with development partners to address environmental issues.
They described it as a positive step toward addressing environmental degradation and building resilience in vulnerable communities.
