The Presidency has announced the extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

His tenure which is due to expire on August 31, 2025, has been extended by one year.

According to the presidency, the extension approved by President Bola Tinubu will enable the Customs CG to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives of this administration, including:

• The modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service;

• The implementation of the National Single Window Project; and

• The execution of Nigeria's obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.

The presidency said Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi's steadfast leadership and commitment to service.

Access24 News gathered that the President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.

The Centre for Ethical Conduct, Orientation and Empowerment (CECOE) had called on the Presidency to consider extending the tenure of Mr. Adeniyi.

The organisation praised him for what it called his outstanding achievement, which has led to his election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council, a historic first for Nigeria since the Council’s establishment in 1953.
