More than 100 firefighters battled towering flames and thick smoke from a seven-storey blaze in central Sydney, which spread to other buildings.
The State Government agency responsible for the provision of fire, rescue and hazmat services in New South Wales revealed in an official statement that part of the building collapsed.
It noted that the agency deployed more than 100 firefighters, with 20 fire trucks, which contained and extinguished the blaze on Randle Street near the city's Central Station.
The Fire and Rescue agency added that at least one nearby vehicle was destroyed by fire, urging the public to avoid the area as firefighting operations continue.
Images that were posted on social media showed flames almost as high as the building itself shooting into the sky.
