Crown Prosecution Service drops domestic Abuse Case Against Former Manchester United Star Ryan Giggs

Former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs will not face a retrial on assault allegations against his ex-girlfriend.

This comes after the charges were withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) at a hearing at Manchester Crown Court. The retrial had been due to start at Manchester Crown Court on 31 July.

Giggs, denied assault and controlling or coercive behaviour towards Kate Greville over a three-year period between August 2017 and November 2020. He also denied common assault of her sister Emma Greville on 1 November 2020.

The Welshman has been on police bail for more than two and a half years since he was arrested on 1 November 2020.

During his Manchester United career, the midfielder won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, four FA Cups and three League Cups.

Giggs who stood down as manager of the Wales national team in 2022 won 64 caps for Wales and is a co-owner of the League Two side Salford.
