The 2025 Local Government Elections in Rivers State have been postponed from August 9 scheduled to Saturday, August 30, 2025.
RSIEC Chairman, Michael Odey, announced the new date during a stakeholders' meeting at the commission's headquarters in Port Harcourt.
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission Chairman Michael Odey stated that the postponement was necessitated by the recent state of emergency declared in Rivers State, which significantly disrupted the original election plans.
RSIEC also unveiled a revised timetable and guidelines for the entire process.
Access24 news reports that Stakeholders, including party leaders, election observers, and media representatives, were present to review the updates.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has pledged to provide adequate security before, during, and after the elections, ensuring the safety of voters and electoral personnel across the state.
The Commission is urging all participating political parties and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the new schedule as preparations intensify for the rescheduled council polls.
