The National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has confirmed Umar Damagum as the substantive National Chairman of the party until its elective national convention scheduled for November.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has revealed that it has zoned its party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 General Elections to Southern Nigeria and the national chairman to the North.
The resolution was reached during the party’s National Executive Committee, NEC, convention held at the PDP’s national headquarters in Abuja.
PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, while reading the communiqué at the end of the meeting to reporters noted that the decision followed the recommendations of the report submitted by the Governor Douye Diri-led National Convention Zoning Committee.
Ologunagba said that the NEC had after extensive deliberation approved the report of the committee which recommended as follows: that all PDP National office positions currently in the northern part of the country remain in the north that all PDP National office positions currently in the southern part of the country remain in the south.
Meanwhile, having retained the position of the national chairman in the north, the presidential candidate of the party for the 2027 general elections is hereby zoned to the southern part of the country.

Currently, the presidency is occupied by a southerner and former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, who was declared the winner of the 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
President Tinubu’s party, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has unanimously adopted him as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
A crisis rocked the party when former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, emerged as the PDP candidate in the 2023 presidential election after the party threw its ticket open to.
