Tottenham beat Manchester United 2-0 with an impressive display in their first home game under new manager Ange Postecoglou.
An entertaining first half ended goalless but Spurs came out quickly in the second and took the lead through midfielder Pape Sarr, who pounced on a deflected cross to fire into the roof of the net from close range.
Later a flowing move found substitute Ben Davies arriving in the box, whose shot was diverted in by United defender Lisandro Martinez.
Reacting after a disappointing outing, Unite’s goalkeeper, Andre Onana talked about how his team failed to convert their chances.
He said: “We had some big chances and we didn’t score, and in the end we paid. We made some mistakes and against good opponents, you pay. Every goal I look at myself. In the end we have to keep calm, keep working. I’m very positive.”
Saturday’s encounter capped the perfect start to Postecoglou’s reign at home, while for Erik ten Hag the game suggested there are plenty of problems to solve before the transfer market shuts in 10 days’ time.
