NIMET Predicts Sunny Skies For North, Thunderstorms In South Friday

Cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine are anticipated across the Southern States, with chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Edo, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, Lagos, and Delta States.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMeT has forecast a mix of sunny conditions and thunderstorms in some part of the country on Friday, February 13, 2026.

According to a weather update posted on NiMet’s official X handle, the Northern States of Nigeria are expected to experience sunny skies throughout the day, with clear conditions in both the morning and afternoon.

“Sunny atmospheric conditions are anticipated across the Northern States during the morning hours. “Sunny conditions are expected to prevail across the region throughout the forecast period,” NiMet said.

According to the agency, central States are also expected to have sunny conditions, although some cloud patches may appear in the morning, with similar skies forecast for the afternoon and evening.

In contrast, NiMet predicted that the Southern States of Nigeria are expected to experience cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine in the morning.

Meanwhile, cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine are anticipated across the Southern States, with chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Edo, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, Lagos, and Delta States.

“Thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall are anticipated over parts of Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos States,” NiMet said.

The agency advised residents to remain vigilant, as thunderstorms may be accompanied by gusty winds.

Motorists were urged to exercise caution during rainfall, especially in flood-prone areas.

NiMet also encouraged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather updates for operational planning, while farmers and outdoor planners were advised to monitor weather developments before scheduling activities.
