Nigeria's Labour Union kicks against pump price increase

The Nigeria Labour Congress has stated that the increment of the pump price to N617 per litre is unacceptable to them.

Head of Information and Public Affairs, Comrade Benson Upah who stated this in a statement issued to news men in Abuja noted that the increment poses a significant threat to the socio-economic well-being of the citizenry, their businesses, incomes, livelihood, everything.

The congress earlier stated that no reasonable government acting reasonably, leaves its national currency entirely to the storms of the Market as this could lead to unintended consequences.

The NLC said the new pump price is suggestive of the fact that the pump price could rise to N1000 or more per a litre any time soon which the congress said will make planning difficult and life uncertain.

The statement said "We are yet to be convinced how this is helpful to the people or the economy or how it renews the hope of the people".

While advising the government to retrace its steps from this move, the NLC warned the federal government that the people's calmness should not be taken for granted.

"Finally, if Baby Steps inflict this level of pain, we wonder what Adult Steps would". Said the NLC.

Access24 News report that the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, was on Tuesday raised from N537/litre to N617/litre at some filling stations across the country.
