Muslims in Nigeria, have joined others across the world to celebrate Eid-El-Kabir, a day set aside to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to follow Allah’s command to sacrifice his son, Ishmael.
Every year, the festive of sacrifice, is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide, which also marks the end of Hajj, the five-day religious journey that takes Muslims to the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The day begins with congregational prayers by Muslim faithful, followed by the slaughtering of animals, which could be a sheep or a goat, the meat of which is shared among friends, family, and the poor.
The President of Nigeria, Bola Hammed Tinubu, also joined Muslim faithful to mark the celebration at Dodan barracks, Lagos State, as he encouraged them to promote peace and stay away from tribalism.
Speaking on behalf of Tinubu, the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the country and support the president, noting that it is a difficult time for Nigeria.
He said "The hope that Ashiwaju promised, has already been manifested. It was manifested in less than 20 days. What he promised Nigerians, he is already manifesting it.”
ACCESS24, Correspondent, Deji Ogunsola, reports that the Salat al-Eid at the Dodan Barracks prayer ground also witnessed the presence of the deputy governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, the speaker Lagos State, Mudashiru Obasa, and former minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.
