Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum called for calm and unity Sunday after federal forces reportedly killed cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes pupularly known as EL-Mencho.
This operation, authorities say, has triggered roadblocks, flight disruptions, and scattered violence across parts of Mexico.
In a statement addressing the developing security situation, Sheinbaum emphasised coordination among security agencies and urged the public to remain informed.
“The Secretariat of National Defense reported on the operation carried out this morning by federal forces, which resulted in various blockades and other reactions.”
She added that security authorities were maintaining communication across jurisdictions.
“There is absolute coordination with the governments of all states; we must remain informed and calm.
“The social media accounts of the Security Cabinet provide permanent updates,” she wrote.
The president added, “In the vast majority of the national territory, activities are proceeding with complete normality.”
Concluding her message, the president expressed recognition for Mexico’s security institutions.
“My recognition to the Mexican Army, National Guard, Armed Forces, and Security Cabinet. We work every day for peace, security, justice, and the well-being of Mexico,” the release concluded.
