The Management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, says it’s looking into students’ concerns over the relocation of two departments to another faculty.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Lekan Fadeyi, told reporters that a Senate Committee has been constituted on this regard.
Recall that students embarked on a peaceful protest on Tuesday to stop the move of the Departments of Anatomy and Physiology from the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences to Pure and Applied Sciences.
When asked to confirm the incident of the institution’s internal security agents stoning the protesting students in retaliation, the PRO said he was not aware such took place.
However, the students said that the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Wahid Saka, told them that a meeting was ongoing to handle their concerns.
Having waited a while, the students alleged that they discovered that no such meeting was taking place at that period, just as they expressed concern that their grievances were not being treated with urgency, adding that some non-medical lecturers were reportedly unavailable at the time.
Not satisfied with the development, the students locked the gate of the College of Health Sciences, leading to a confrontation with security personnel stationed at the facility.
During the confrontation, the institution’s security officers allegedly used force against the students, throwing stones at them.
A 400-level student was said to have sustained injuries but was later relieved after being taken to the LAUTECH Health Centre for medical attention.
