In a bid to ease traffic congestion and provide alternative means of transportation under the Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan, the state government has assured commuters that the blue rail line would live up to its expectations.

The state government gave the assurance during a sensitization exercise held on Friday ahead of the commencement of the Blue Rail services spearheaded by the Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, Abimbola Akinajo.

The sensitization exercise also included a trip from Marina to Mile 12 area of the state on the Blue Rail.

While speaking on the benefits of the blue rail line to commuters, Akinajo noted that the mass transport system would kickstart in April, after the train must have completed the required 3-thousand-kilometer test run.

The director added that adequate security has been put in place to monitor the train lines and stations, round the clock, stressing that plans have also been made for optimal maintenance of the system.

She said “Making people aware, that’s what we are doing, that’s what the testing is all about, we have already put a lot of videos online, but I hope the media would also show how the process is.

We have a relationship with the contractor in terms of maintenance. We have an agreement that they would continue to recruit young Nigerians and train them in the understanding of the work.”

In a chat with ACCESS24, some of the commuters highlighted their experience on the track, as they lauded the mass transit initiative by the Lagos State government.

They further stressed that the rail system would help mitigate traffic issues in the mega city, and also improve the Internal Generated Revenue of the state.

ACCESS24 Correspondent, Deji Ogunsola, reports that Persons with Disabilities were also encouraged to use the mega rail system, for easy and fast transportation, within Lagos.
