The Centre for Ethical Conduct, Orientation and Empowerment (CECOE) has called on the Presidency to consider extending the tenure of Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

The organization also commended Adeniyi for what it called his outstanding achievement which has led to his election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council a historic first for Nigeria since the Council’s establishment in 1953.

Dr. David Owah, Coordinator of CECOE, while speaking at a press briefing today in Abuja described CG Adeniyi’s appointment as a landmark national triumph that not only elevates Nigeria’s global standing but also highlights the success of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

"The appointment reflects Nigeria’s growing influence in global trade and customs administration and affirms the country’s capacity for leadership on the international stage", he said.

CECOE emphasized that CG Adeniyi’s success is a glowing endorsement of President Tinubu’s governance philosophy, which prioritizes merit, measurable results, and ethical leadership.

The group said the President’s empowerment of capable leaders like Adeniyi has yielded dividends that resonate far beyond Nigeria’s borders.

Highlighting the importance of sustained leadership, CECOE appealed to the Presidency to consider extending CG Adeniyi’s tenure

"On behalf of millions of Nigerians who believe in ethical leadership and sustained progress, CECOE calls for recognition of CG Adeniyi’s outstanding performance through tenure extension" Dr. Owah said.

According to him, such move will consolidate reforms, reward excellence, and maximize Nigeria’s global trade influence.

The organization urges all stakeholders to support the call for leadership continuity in the Nigeria Customs Service to build on this momentum and propel Nigeria to even greater heights in customs administration and global governance.
