Funeral Procession Takes Place For Iran President In Tabriz

Iranians gathered to mourn at the funerary procession of president Ebrahim Raisi in the northwestern city of Tabriz

Thousands of Iranians walked soberly through the streets on Tuesday for the funeral procession of President Ebrahim Raisi and seven members of his entourage who were killed in a helicopter crash.

Waving Iranian flags and portraits of the late president, the mourners set off from a central square in the northwestern city of Tabriz, where Raisi was headed when his helicopter crashed on Sunday.

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria extended his condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the passing of President Ebrahim Raisi; Iranian foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other officials who died in a helicopter crash.

Tinubu, through a statement signed by his Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, described President Raisi as a leader who was passionately committed to the development of Iran.” 

While commiserating with the bereaved families, Tinubu prayed for the continuous peace, stability, and prosperity of the Iranian nation.

Officials confirmed that President Raisi and nine others on Sunday lost their lives after a helicopter conveying them crashed due to poor weather in the mountains near the Azerbaijan border.
