Workers at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) Secretariat in Abuja, Nigeria are on a three-day protest.
The protest which began on Monday June 30 is expected to end on Wednesday July 2, 2025, is being organized by the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The protesters say they are demonstrating to call the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, t his refusal to address longstanding staff welfare issues, including non-promotion of staff since 2023, unresolved salary administration problems, unpaid entitlements, and illegal deductions.
The protesters held placards with inscriptions such as “Non-payment of AEPB Enforcement Squad,” “Inaccessibility of the salary portal to salary desk officers,” “Withheld salaries and allowances of workers for over 6 months,” among others
The protest follows months of industrial unrest in the FCT which have affected primary health centres, public schools, and area council Secretariat.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and affiliated unions have threatened to join the protests and shut down Abuja after July 3 if the protesters demands are not met
