Accountability: Follow Laws, Reps Public Accounts Cttee Tells Nigerians

Committee Tells Nigerians To Recommit To Principles of Accountability

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, Bamidele Salam, has called on Nigerians to recommit to the principles of accountability, transparency, and strict adherence to rules and regulations in public service.

Speaking at the closing gala of the 2025 National Conference on Public Accounts and Fiscal Governance in Abuja organised by the Senate and House of Representatives Public Account Committees, Salam said that the issues of corruption, fiscal recklessness, and weak governance structures cannot be addressed by government alone.

He added that such requires the honest participation of all citizens.

Salam urged participants and stakeholders to leave the conference with a renewed sense of duty and a clear understanding that governance reform must begin with individual and institutional integrity.

The lawmaker urged participants to take time to read and understand the various papers and policy documents presented at the conference so that they can contribute meaningfully to ongoing governance conversations and reforms.

Experts say Nigerians often live peacefully together without considering their differences in social settings, but then revert to ethnic and religious biases when it comes to national decision-making and accountability.
