The 2022 BET Awards ceremony, which took place on Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, was a night of pride for Nigerians. An interesting twist occurred at the BET Awards presentation, which honors Black excellence in music, culture, and sports, when Nigerian artists stole the show. Nigerian artists did the nation proud at the event, which is regarded as one of the biggest recognitions in Black entertainment globally, with historic accolades and electrifying performances.

Tems wins Best International Act

Singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, won the Best International Act, making history as the first Nigerian female artist to win the prestigious category.

Wizkid’s “Essence” wins Best Collaboration.
Wizkid, Tems, and Justin Bieber’s song “Essence” also took home the Best Collaboration award, giving the outstanding female vocalist a total of two triumphs.

The competition for the Essence Music Awards included “Every Change I Get” by DJ Khaled featuring Lil Baby and Lil Durk, “Family Ties” by Baby Seem featuring Kenderick Lamar, “Whole Lotta” by Bia featuring Nicki Minaj, “Way 2 Sexy” by Drake featuring Future and Young Thug, and “Kiss me More” by Doja Cat featuring SZA.

In August 2021, Beiber joined Wizkid, Tems, and the “Essence” remix.

Performer Fireboy is the main event.


When he performed at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night, singer Fireboy electrified the crowd.

He performed on the same stage as well-known artists from over the world including Diddy, Lil Wayne, Roddy Rich, and many more, and the audience applauded him for his excellent performance.

Pheelz, a producer and singer from Nigeria, was the star of the BET Awards pre-show outdoor concert on Sunday night, which came before the main event.

During the pre-show, Pheelz performed his hit song Finesse to the enthusiastic audience.
