Jean-Pierre Adams, a former French defender who had been in a coma for 39 years, died this morning at the age of 73 at the University Hospital of Nimes, France.
There was an issue with the anesthesia supply during the surgery. In addition, a pillow that had been used to support him up had dropped without the attention of hospital workers.
Adams was 34 years old when he was put into a coma at Lyon Hospital in 1982 after a failed knee surgery. He never awoke.
He was born in Dakar, Senegal, but has represented France 22 times since 1972, playing for Nimes, OGC Nice, and PSG at club level.
